One week guided walks in Europe’s oldest mountains.
Venabu mountain hotel is situated at Venabygdsfjellet south of the Rondane National Park. The landscape is dominated by the open plateau formed by a desert climate 60 million years ago, as well as newer formations created 10,000 years ago during the last Ice Age. Here you can see some of the most exciting scenery consisting of narrow canyons, lakes, waterfalls, moraines and terraces. Discover the light summer nights in June, walk over the lichen covered plateau in the kingdom of the wild reindeer, visit old summer farms and discover the rich cultural heritage in the old valley of Gudbrandsdalen, like the Peer Gynt Festival in August. It is our wish that all those who take part in our walking programmes should enjoy them and take time to look at nature’s diversity.

“Into the unknown” 
Short and longer tours varying from day to day in the weeks where we do not have the other walking programmes. Stay one week or just a couple of days, and sign up for the tours the evening before. Some tours will be all day, and others just a couple of hours or half day. The price is according to the length of tour and any transfers are included. 3-7 nights. "Family walking - activities for families with children"
During this week there will be guided walks from 1-5 hours. We will discover what we can find in the environment, play and have a nice picnic. See Tour Information for prices and more detailed program.


"Themed weeks"
We also offer some themed weeks. These are longer walks of 15-25kms and participants should be fit and used to walking. These tours are all inclusive of accommodation, meals, guided walks, maps for the walks and transfers in connected with the walks. Duration 4-7 nights. How to find us:
We have a direct bus from Oslo airport Gardermoen every Saturday leaving at 14.00 with the return on the following Saturday arriving at the airport the latest 13.00.

“The light Nordic nights” – Guided walks Saturday 23rd June to Saturday 30th June .
We start with celebrating the longest night, St. Hans. Weather permitting; there is a bonfire with music by the lake. There are guided walks every day and there will be one midnight walk in the mountains. The walks will take you to mountain peaks, waterfalls, canyons and the hotel’s summer farm. There will be plenty of time to look at the flora and learn about the local fauna and cultural life.
Price: 7 nights NOK 7.900,- per person in twin rooms, meals and guided walks are included. Supplement of NOK 490,- for a small single room or NOK 1.520,- for a bigger single room.


“In the homeland of the wild reindeer” - Guided walks Saturday 30th June to Saturday 7th July
Our guides will give you a lot of interesting knowledge about the life of the wild reindeer and how they have survived. You will also learn about the old hunting culture and see old pitfalls – and maybe a glimpse of the animals themselves. Here the last herd of European tundra reindeer have survived since the Ice Age ended about 10.000 years ago. This week we will mainly stay above the tree line, and walk over the lichen covered plateau and up to the peaks with their magnificent views. 
Price: 7 nights NOK 8.550,- per person in twin room, including meals and guided walks. Single room supplement NOK 490,- in a small single room and NOK 1520,- in a bigger single room.


“Family walking – activities for families with children” - Guided walks Saturday 14th to Saturday 21st July.
This week we will arrange different activities for families with children. During this week there will be guided walks from 1- 5 hours. where we will see what we can find in nature, play and enjoy having nice picnic with your packed lunch and thermos. In addition to walking, you can try our canoes on the lake in front of our hotel, angling, ride on a bike or go horse riding. Instruction for children on how to take better pictures is also available – children are creative photographers!
Prices with half board, packed lunch and a filled thermos flask:
3 nights NOK 3.885,- per person.
5 nights NOK 6.050,- per person.
7 nights NOK 8.350,- per person.
One child under 12 years stays free. Children 6-15 years half price and children under 6 years pay 25% of the adult price. Riding available pay a supplement locally, other activities described in the programme are free.

“Walking in Europe’s oldest mountains” – Guided walks Saturday 21st to Saturday 28th July.
Venabu mountain hotel is situated south of the Rondane range, in an open plateau landscape formed by a desert climate 60 million years ago, as well as formations created during the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago. We will be walking through the special rounded mountain formations, which are typical of this old landscape. This relatively flat landscape can surprise you with canyons made by the force of glacial water gauging through the rock as well as waterfalls. We will visit the hotel’s old summer farm for a traditional meal and we will walk in a very special “terraced” landscape, also made by the ice and water of the last Ice Age.

“Mountain hike and the outdoor performance Peer Gynt” -  Sunday 29th July to Thursday 2nd August .
Here we combine guided walks and cultural events. In the eve 29th July, St Olav’s Eve, we make a bonfire if the weather permits. Monday the walk takes you over the vast plateau and up to one of our breathtaking peaks. Maybe we can imagine meeting some of the characters from Peer Gynt – the play is based on stories from our area! Tuesday we will walk through a more rural landscape to our old summer farm where we eat a traditional lunch. Wednesday evening we will go by bus to the spectacular outdoor theatre with its beautiful stage by the lake and see the performance of “Peer Gynt” accompanied by Grieg’s music – Norwegian culture at its best!
Price: 4 nights NOK 4.580,- per person in twin room including 2 guided walks, all meals and entrance to the play. Supplement NOK 280,- for a small single room and NOK 1.000,- for a bigger single room.

“Autumn in Norwegian mountains” –Sunday 19th August to Friday 24th August.
Guided walks in the mountains, when the autumn colours are coming and the chilly nights make the air very clear. The end of August is the season for berry and mushroom picking if you feel like it. You can fill your mind with the beautiful colours and scenic views as well as filling your stomach with golden cloudberries if we are lucky with the harvest this year! We will also give you an introduction on how to take better pictures during the week.
Price: 5 nights NOK 6.200,- per person in twin rooms including meals and the walking programme. Supplement NOK 350,- for a small single room and NOK 1.250,- for a bigger single room.

Elk/moose safari
These safaris are normally on Tuesday evenings in June and July. We go by minibus to places we are pretty sure to see these magnificent animals. Start approx 8pm and back before midnight.
