North Sea Route from Egersund to Haugesund
The nature of Rogaland is full of contrasts: dramatic and pristine fjords, jagged mountains, flat moors, long, white, sandy or pebbled beaches, rocky coastal stretches and a fantastic archipelago of islands. The North Sea Route in Rogaland is not rough, dangerous or particularly demanding for cyclists, and large sections of the route pass along Jæren's majestic beaches. With starting point in Egersund, the North Sea Route passes along the old and forbidden to cars Vestlandske Hovedvei to Ogna. Here you will encounter the first of Jæren's many sandy beaches. Further on you can follow the ancient Royal Road along the coast to Hå Gamle Prestegård. Northwards you will find magnificent beaches one after another, just like pearls on a string. From Sola you can choose to either cycle to Sandnes, along Gandsfjorden to Stavanger, or you can follow the coast from Sola to Tungenes Fyr (lighthouse). From Mekjarvik, you can take the ferry to Skudenes harbour. From here on, the route passes along the coast to Haugesund. The tour can be done between May 15th - September 14th.
